Based in
France,
Sincerity is the musical performance outlet
for the poem-songs of the English writer, poet, activist and singer-songwriter Alan
Morrison, who also plays acoustic and electric guitars. Sincerity have a style
all of their own, although firmly rooted in the folk/folk-rock tradition. It has
been described by one music critic as "contemporary folk with touches of country
and progressive rock".
Although they will play in solo format and as a duo (Alan on
guitars and Catherine on cello),
additional musicians play according to the songlist and venue. Sincerity will
play concerts of all sizes and venues, as well as for special occasions. In
smaller venues, as well as their original songs, they will perform some
traditional songs of England, Ireland and Scotland. They
will travel any distance in the world to fulfil their musical mission.
Sincerity was originally formed as a duo in 2003 to create a blend of
fine-lined melody and urgent thought-provoking lyrics. Their first public
performance was a Benefit Concert for Amnesty International in Perpignan,
France, in June of that year. Since then, these emotionally-charged live
perfromances have been heard across the South of France, and they are now hoping
to play in the UK and across the rest of Europe.

"This is
music from the heart - poetry set to harmony - love songs for the soul",
explains Alan. "We want to reach people with music by encouraging them to delve
deeply into a well of emotional experience and, as a result, to be enriched and
even changed".
In line with that desire, one of the missions of
Sincerity
is to promote "songs of conscience" as a valid art form. (They used to be called
"protest songs" - although the word "protest" doesn't really do justice to the
genre, as "protest" can be seen as merely negative). All songs which are written
from the heart are love songs in one form or another. "Songs of conscience"
(which may sometimes be actual "songs of protest") are simply love songs of an
altruistic kind, written out of passion to further a noble cause. They serve as
rallying points to bring people together for the purposes of change. In this
way, music can be revolutionary - even subversive - as well as being inspiring
and beautiful.
Although such "songs of conscience" form only a part of
Sincerity's
output, all their songs - written and arranged by Alan - aim to make people
think, to inspire them to live, feel and to love and to stimulate social and
personal change.
Their CD was released in January 2007, entitled "A
Trace of Sky". This contains a generous 65 minutes of 12 original songs, written by
Alan, including the "Anthem
for Someone's Child" which is featured on the campaigning website in
memory of all the children who are the victims of war in Middle-East —
www.forsomeoneschild.com. "Anthem
for Someone's Child" received the "Best Songwriter" award
(France) in the national category of the 2006 Music Aid International Music
Awards Contest.
